Tank and The Bangas // Live in Lexington

New Orleans Soul/R&B band Tank and The Bangas, who are touring in support of their latest album, Green Balloon, made a stop in Lexington, KY recently. The band has been steadily growing a fan base since starting out in 2011 and performed to a sizable and passionate crowd this evening. Comprised of 10 band members that play everything from bass, drums and guitar, to keys, saxophone and flute, they are the epitome of a live band. Singer Tarriona “Tank” Ball, a former slam poet, includes a mixture of singing and spoken word in the songs that creates a fun and mesmerizing performance. She is a born performer and had a lot of fun on stage and with the crowd. Clad this evening in a shorts and short-sleeved animal print outfit, a beautiful and colorful kimono-style robe, a long, intricate braid and shimmery make-up, she looked stunning and stylish on stage. An expressive singer, she feels the music she sings and is aided by her ever amazing back-up singers Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph and Kayla Buggage. The entire band interacted with each other throughout the evening, as well as with the audience, encouraging them to put their hands in the air and sing-along. Near the end of the set, Ball sat in a chair near the mic stand and picked up a telephone that doubled as a microphone, engaging in spoken word while “talking on the phone”. She later sat at the edge of the stage and gave her microphone to a couple of the fans in the audience to sing part of the song. Tank and The Bangas creates a party on stage when they perform and gave their fans an incredibly fun and dynamic evening of music! Shreveport soul musician Maggie Koerner opened the show!
