Seattle-based rock band Death Cab For Cutie performed in Louisville, Ky recently to a packed crowd. It was a perfect summer day for an outdoor show and the venue, situated within Iroquois Park, made for the perfect setting this evening. Performing a long and varied set list of songs that span their 22 years years as a band, they started their set off with “I Dreamt We Spoke Again” from their latest album Thank You For Today. They performed many of their hits including “Gold Rush”, “Crooked Teeth”, “I Will Possess Your Heart” and “Soul Meets Body” and had the crowd dancing and singing along all evening. Singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard chatted a bit with the crowd throughout the set, offering his condolences early on for the Jim Beam warehouse fire that occurred a few days prior. The band attracted a diverse crowd this evening, with fans of all ages enjoying the music. There were many older fans who had been with the band since the beginning, as well as quite a few younger faces in the crowd. Although Gibbard played guitar for many of the songs, he also played a few on a large wooden piano situated near the back of the stage. The lighting throughout the evening ranged from bright and colorful to darker and moody, depending on the mood of the song being played. Ending their set with “The Sound Of Settling”, the band left the stage before coming back out for a four song encore. Starting the encore off with an acoustic rendition of “I Will Follow You Into The Dark”, arguably one of their most popular songs, the entire venue was singing along in a chill-inducing and beautiful moment. The band then rounded out the evening with “When We Drive”, “Tiny Vessels” and “Transatlanticism”. It was an incredible evening of music and Death Cab For Cutie showed why they have maintained their popularity as a band over the years with their incredible live show and timeless songs. Chicago indie rock band Lala Lala opened the show.
